The top-selling, beloved indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths returns with a new romance about a young woman who loses her memory—and the man who knows that the only way to protect her is to stay away.

Left for dead in the fields of rural Oregon, a young woman defies all odds and survives—but she awakens with no idea who she is, or what happened to her. Refusing to answer to “Jane Doe” for another day, the woman renames herself “Water” for the tiny, hidden marking on her body—the only clue to her past. Taken in by old Ginny Fitzgerald, a crotchety but kind lady living on a nearby horse farm, Water slowly begins building a new life. But as she attempts to piece together the fleeting slivers of her memory, more questions emerge: Who is the next-door neighbor, quietly toiling under the hood of his Barracuda? Why won’t Ginny let him step foot on her property? And why does Water feel she recognizes him?

Twenty-four-year-old Jesse Welles doesn’t know how long it will be before Water gets her memory back. For her sake, Jesse hopes the answer is never. He knows that she’ll stay so much safer—and happier—that way. And that’s why, as hard as it is, he needs to keep his distance. Because getting too close could flood her with realities better left buried.

The trouble is, water always seems to find its way to the surface.

Personal Thoughts

Burying Water is a book I knew I wanted to instantly read as soon as I read the summary. K.A Tucker's latest series is nothing like her One Tiny Lie series, and this just goes to show just how versatile of an author she is.

One of the common complaints that people have about new adult is the lack of originality. More or less, every story just comes back to the same old story. If you're looking for something new, then try this book. It's a hard book to read at times because it depicts abuse in a relationship, but it's one that's completely worth the read. Both Jesse and Water were characters that immediately grappled at my heart. Water, especially, was in a rough place in life, but she was resilient and incredibly brave. It was hard not to admire her and her strength. The sad truth is that very few people in her position would be able to rise as well as she did after all the hurdles she went through. Jesse, too, was amazing in many ways. He had a heart made of gold and falling for him was very much an effortless act. In addition to a brilliant main cast, Burying Water also had a terrific secondary cast. Jesse's family, especially, played a huge role in Water's new life and I loved how caring and supportive they were of her. Water's grumpy neighbor, Ginny, was the highlight of the book for me. She was cranky and bossy, but the perfect person to allow Water to heal and go through her life without her memories.

The romance initially put me off because there is cheating involved. Once I got more into the book and I understood where both characters were coming from, it was easy to see why they fell for each other. I know cheating should never be justified, but in this case, it was justified for many reasons, and you really do have to read the book and experience all the emotions the characters went through to get a full grasp of those reasons. Burying Water has flashbacks strewn throughout the book that add a bit to the element of the mystery. The mystery itself was predictable, but I don't think the author intended it to be otherwise. We know exactly what happened to Water, but watching her slowly unravel the mysteries surrounding her, including her identity, was what made the book such an addicting read for me. K.A Tucker's writing was as always outstanding. She knows how to incorporate emotions into her writing that really hooks the reader in.

Burying Water was a book full of feelings, delicious romantic scenes and characters that find themselves in the midst of chaos.
