USA Today bestselling author Sawyer Bennett scores big-time with the first novel in a sexy new series hot enough to melt the ice.

Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.

As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

Personal Thoughts

Sawyer Bennett is one of my favorite NA author. On finding out that she was writing a new series with hockey players at the forefront, I was delighted. As expected, Alex was a sexy, romantic and intense book that kept me entertained throughout and satisfied the romantic within me.

Usually in NA books, I struggle a lot with the heroine. With Alex, however, I started off on the wrong foot with the main character, as you probably guessed, Alex. I was a bit wary about his personality and I was worried that his attitudes would continue to put me off. You see, he was a jerk. He hated being a hockey player and was downright rude to his fans and his teammates. He was known as the "most valuable prick" of his team! However, Alex completely took me by surprise. As the layers to his character unraveled and we got to see the real him, I started to fall in love with him pretty hard. By the time he was pursuing Sutton, the heroine, I was already swooning hard. Alex definitely had his fair share of flaws, one of the most irritating being his inability to share his feelings with people around him, but it's easy to side with him when you finally figure out his full story.

Sutton, the love interest, was someone I instantly clicked with. From the moment I found out she was a drug counselor for underprivileged teenagers, I knew I was going to have a good relationship with her. Sutton remained consistent throughout the book with her intelligence and her caring nature. I loved how she would see the good in people always and never judged others. She was a complete sweetheart! She also had a lovely family who were the shining stars of this book. Alex and Sutton's romance was very well-written, in my opinion. It started off slow as the two of them got to know each other better. Their romance had that perfect balance of sweet and spicy and I loved how well they worked together as couple. I was definitely rooting for the two of them. Alex wasn't devoid of any romantic drama, but thankfully, the drama didn't stretch for long and concluded swiftly.

This was a great start to the Cold Fury Hockey series and I am certainly looking forward to meeting more of these sexy hockey players and their love interests! If you enjoy sports romances with an arrogant hero whose heart melts when a woman enters his life, then do yourself a favor and read Alex.
