A bold, seductive laird meets his passionate match in a scintillating Highland romance from New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands...

Sword fighting, swearing, and riding astride come naturally to Saidh Buchanan. Simpering and holding her tongue—definitely not. Raised alongside seven boisterous brothers, Saidh has little interest in saddling herself with a husband... until she glimpses the new Laird MacDonnell bathing naked in the loch. Though she's far from a proper lady, the brawny Highlander makes Saidh feel every inch a woman.

She has an angel's looks, a warrior's temper, and seeks out his kisses with wanton eagerness. Little wonder that Greer is intrigued by his comely guest. When reckless desire overtakes them, he's more than willing to make an honest woman of her. But Saidh is the target of a hidden enemy, and Greer faces the battle of his life to safeguard the woman he wants above all others.

Personal Thoughts

The Highlander Takes a Bride was my first highlander romance and what a huge success it was! I'm convinced that I'm missing out some seriously hot Scots in historical romance and I definitely want to try more from Lynsay Sands.

I loved the characters in The Highlander Takes a Bride, especially, Saidh. She was quite the firecracker of a heroine. I loved how tom-boyish she was given that she had grown up with 7 older brothers. Saidh was definitely a riot of a heroine and I loved that she was headstrong, not afraid to fight for herself and to stand up to others. I sure do love a good mouthy heroine who doesn't care about societal norms. Greer was also a hero that I instantly liked. He was all alpha man and gruff and in his kilt, he was rather irresistible. Besides being sexy though, Greer was passionate, loyal to the core and a sweetheart underneath. I couldn't have asked for a better hero for Saidh. Their bullheadedness actually complemented each other really well, although I thought they would constantly be fighting. That didn't happen however. They did enjoy bickering and bantering together, which made it fun for me as a reader. When they first met, they were instantly attracted to each other. Lynsay Sands wrote it in such a believable way because it was insta-lust as opposed to insta-love. The chemistry between Saidh and Greer was smoldering! I kept fanning myself because there were so many delicious scenes between the two. Phew! Lynsay Sands knows how to bring on the sexy with her writing. Saidh and Greer got married pretty early on in the book, but the author still managed to keep the dynamics between the two of them just as fun-loving and romantic as it was before they wedded.

Besides the romance, The Highlander Takes a Bride also had a mystery element to it. Attempts are made on Saidh's life throughout the book and most of the plot involved trying to figure out who it was. While it was easy to guess, I thought the author did a good job at making the book still enjoyable,  mostly in the form of Saidh's seven older brothers. Those boys were a hoot and together with their overwhelming overprotectiveness and love for Saidh, they brought about for some funny scenes. I'm hoping they will also have their books eventually in the series. It took me a while to get used to the Scottish dialect in the book because this was the first time I had ever read a book where all the characters speak like that. I was initially worried that I wouldn't like it very much, but I wound up enjoying it quite a bit and once I got into the story, I was immersed into the story. I may or may not have even started talking like that at home much to the confusion of my family members.

The Highlander Takes a Bride wound up being a memorable romance read for me and I'm already a fan of Lynsay Sands having read this first book of hers. Fans of historical romance, definitely check out this fun and sexy book!
