Review : Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins

Summary (from Goodreads)

Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch.

That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret, and that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth.

Turns out, Sophie’s a demon, one of only two in the world—the other being her father. What’s worse, she has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is precisely why Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a dangerous procedure that will destroy her powers.

But once Sophie arrives she makes a shocking discovery. Her new friends? They’re demons too. Meaning someone is raising them in secret with creepy plans to use their powers, and probably not for good. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they’re using Archer to do it. But it’s not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?

Personal Thoughts

Demonglass is the sequel to Hex Hall and the book did not disappoint !

Sophie is still as kick-ass as she was in Hex Hall. It's good to see that Sophie was not pining for Archer after the incident in Hex Hall.
She was still a very strong and independent character and she goes on with her life even though she does miss Archer. She does not change a bit. Yes, she's still sarcastic and witty!

In this book , we get to see a lot of Sophie's dad. I immediately liked him and I could see where Sophie got her personality from. He is the exact older male and more mature version of Sophie. I think the best part in Demonglass was the relationship between Sophie and her dad. The two of them grow closer throughout the book.

Now onto Archer. I did not really expect to see much of him in the book, but there are plenty of scenes with him. And, yes those scenes were still swoonworthy !

We also have more of Cal in this book and you can actually sense the beginning of a love triangle between the Sophie, Archer and Cal. Cal is the kind of guy who is quiet but passionate. It's pretty clear that he really does like Sophie, especially after what he does for Archer because of Sophie. I really did like his character, but I'm still Team Archer :)

The ending had my jaw dropping to the floor and well I wanted to bang my head against the wall because now I have to wait until 2012 for Spellbound ?!!???!?
Gah !

Well, I must say Rachel Hawkins did not disappoint and it was still a pleasure to read about Sophie. Overall, Demonglass was amazing and I truly look forward to reading Spellbound!
