Personal Thoughts
I'm convinced that Jus Accardo can't write a bad book. She's one author who has consistently impressed and entertained me with her works. In Rules of Survival, Jus Accardo strays away from her normal paranormal books into NA romantic suspense. Like always, I found myself having a really fun time reading the book and I was hooked from the beginning.
Mikayla has been on the run ever since she became a prime suspect in the murder case of her mother. She's all alone and is being chased by bounty hunters. Kayla was a great main character. I loved the girl from the very first page. She's brave, headstrong and independent. Despite all the crappy situations she has to go through in this book, she remains true to herself and never once complains about her situation. I also really loved how much respect and love she had for her mother. It was clear that Mikayla's mom hadn't made the best choices when it came to raising her daughter, but not once in the book did Kayla resent her mother for the situation she was in. Over the course of the book, she learns a few things about her mother that would normally put off a person, but her love for her mother was so deep, she chose to overlook the things she learned. Shaun, the bounty hunter in training chasing Kayla and her love interest, was also someone who was easy to love. He had that sexy and sarcastic hero thing going on with him which made him quite appealing. He and Kayla had fantastic chemistry together. One of the highlights of the book for me was their constant bickering and bantering which was very entertaining and of course, once they dive into a relationship, it was hot!
The plot in Rules of Survival was action-packed, suspenseful and fast-paced. From the very first page, the reader is thrown into a well-written and thrilling story-line that had me on the edge of my seat. While some of the twists and turns were predictable, there were a few that completely threw me aback because I wasn't expecting them. Some of the secrets and revelations that were made captivated me. Jus Accardo's entrancing writing style also aided in making me fall in love with this book. She has the kind of prose that I just can't get enough of because she knows how to keep the readers absorbed in her story line.
Fun and refreshing, Jus Accardo once again brings something new to the NA genre with this entertaining and low on the angst romantic suspense novel. If you haven't picked up a Jus Accardo book, then you really are missing out.
