Blog Tour Stop : Changing My Wardrobe by Deb Hanrahan

Summary (from Goodreads)

Lindsey, a high school freshman, views her new school as a place to start over. With the help of her friends, she hopes that a change in her wardrobe will prompt a change in her image.

She has some success until her long-time nemesis, Avery, reminds Lindsey of her place. Without asking for help from the adults, the main character and her friends struggle to manage the bullying.

Despite their efforts, tensions rise, and people get hurt. The ending of this book will leave the reader shocked and heartbroken.

Changing My Wardrobe is a cautionary tale about the immutable problem of bullying. This story not only looks at bullying from the victim's point of view but also explores the motives behind the aggressors’ actions. Changing My Wardrobe demonstrates the fluid and complex nature of bullying by shining a light on the contributing factor of social media.

Personal Thoughts

Because I don't want to spoil things for future readers, I will be very short in my review. There was something about the premise of Changing My Wardrobe that had me wanting to read the book. I went into the book without any expectations and in turn ended up being shell-shocked.

I was so astounded by the events that occurred in the book that it took me some while to gather my thoughts. The book really got me thinking about the whole issue of bullying. From where I come, in schools, bullying cases are very rare and it's never really happened to me while I was in school. Deb Hanrahan's book was a serious mind-opener. Since I've never been in the shoes of a bully victim before, I had no idea what he or she felt like, but the book really depicted this well.

Changing My Wardrobe may seem like the conventional YA contemporary book, but I assure you it wasn't. It was a somewhat dark and scary story, because once you finish reading you realize that this is something that might happen in real life. The book managed to really extract emotions from me and trust me, none of it was a happy one. I felt fear, pain, anger and eventually, utter sorrow.

I honestly cannot recommend this book enough. I strongly believe that each and everyone should read this book. Be warned that this isn't a happily ever after kind of book. Instead, the ending will have your gut-wrenching.
Changing My Wardrobe was a dark, complex tale that touched the delicate theme of bullying. It will stupefy you and have you breathless.

About Deb Hanrahan

I live with my husband and three teenagers in the Chicagoland burbs. After graduating from the
University of Illinois with a B.S. in Chemistry, I worked at a nuclear power plant for five years. I then
left my career to stay at home with my three kids.

Seemingly, overnight, I went from being crazy-busy to having way too much time on my hands. With
my husband working long hours and my kids pursuing their own lives, I had to reinvent myself. So, I
decided to write that book I always wanted to write. Changing My Wardrobe is my first novel
