Goodreads

This is what Elsie Main remembers about her tenth birthday:

1. Mum was at home making our chocolate birthday cake.
2. Dillon was swimming with the dolphins.
3. One minute Eddie was there, then he was gone.
4. I collapsed and Dad came to get me. Then everything went blue.

Five years on and Elsie still can’t make sense of it all. Her parents are a mess, her big brother Dillon isn’t eating and the body of her twin brother Eddie has never been found. Why does it feel like everyone is keeping something from her?

Fed up with the “handbag” girls at school and her paranoid family at home Elsie escapes to the boathouse - her secret hiding place. Tucked away out of view she spots the boat boys on the water – confident, cool and addicted to freediving. They tell her it’s too dangerous for her to join in, that’s it’s too dark, too scary, that it will hurt. But what do they know about pain? They don’t know that being underwater is the only time in five years she hasn’t ached for her brother.

Plus Elsie has a secret of her own – whenever she dives she has a flashback to the day Eddie vanished. It’s all coming back, and she is determined to discover the truth.

THE ART OF NOT BREATHING depicts a desperate family on the brink and the terrifying secrets that have ripped them apart. Every plot twist is electrifying, every flashback is achingly raw and every bit of buried, angry blame is brought to the surface. But really this is Elsie’s story – a young girl rocked by a family tragedy but still brutally honest and funny on first loves and the struggles of being a teenage outsider.

First of all, I'm in love with that cover! I have a thing for underwater covers and this one is gorgeous.
Secondly, WHAT happened to Eddie?! I feel like this is going to be a really good psychological thriller.
Thirdly, I love that it seems to be heavy on the family dynamics. LOVE!
Fourthly, why is the release date so far away?!
-_-
