Bestselling author of the Wicked Lovely books Melissa Marr’s first contemporary YA novel is a twisted southern gothic tale of obsession, romance, and murder. A killer is obsessed with Eva Tilling. Can she stop him, or will he claim her?

When Eva Tilling wakes up in the hospital, she’s confused—who in her sleepy little North Carolina town could have hit her with their car? And why? But before she can consider the question, she finds that she’s awoken with a strange new skill: the ability to foresee people’s deaths when they touch her. While she is recovering from the hit-and-run, Nate, an old flame, reappears, and the two must traverse their rocky past as they figure out how to use Eva’s power to keep her friends—and themselves—alive. But while Eva and Nate grow closer, the killer grows increasingly frantic in his attempt to get to Eva.

For the first time, New York Times bestselling author Melissa Marr has applied her extraordinary talent to contemporary realism. Chilling twists, unrequited obsession, and high-stakes romance drive this Gothic, racy thriller—a story of small-town oppression and salvation. Melissa’s fans, and every YA reader, will find its wild ride enthralling.

Personal Thoughts

A thrilling mystery book that epitomizes everything that I look for in a good YA mystery novel, Made for You was the perfect match for me. From the first page onwards, the book grasped my attention and refused to let it go until I closed the book.

Eva wakes up after a brutal accident only to find out that she can sense how people die upon touching them. To top it all off, someone is killing people ruthlessly in Eva's town and the people close to Eva might be next. Eva was a wonderful heroine. She wasn't the typical ditzy heroine who was blind to everything that you normally find in YA thrillers. She was astute and observant to her surroundings. She was also clever and completely brave to face what she had to face throughout the book with her head held high. Eva was a heroine who was easy to root for. Eva's love interest in the book, Nate, I had my doubts about initially because they had a strained relationship in the past, but he slowly warmed up his way up into my heart. He was such a sweetheart and he was a pillar to Eva as he supported her even though he had issues of his own at his place. The romance between him and Eva was light, but it was present in the book. I thought he and Eva balanced each other really well. I also loved Eva's best friend, Grace. She was also incredibly supportive of her friend and was always there when Eva needed her. YA needs to depict more friendships like Eva and Grace's.

The highlight of Made for You though were the creepy chapters written in the POV of the killer. You could tell the extent of the psychological issues the killer had and I thought the author did a brilliant job writing those chapters. They gave me the chills because being inside his head was completely messed up, but it added to the fear factor. Add to that an exciting plot that had me reading into the early hours of the morning! Another element I loved about Made for You was how involved Eva's parents and the police in town were in the murder cases. These weren't parents and cops who were unaware of what was going on in their town. They police also regularly checked on Eva and made sure she was alright. I appreciated that bit of realism very much because the lack of police involvement in YA mystery books is something that tends to drive me crazy. The only aspect I thought wasn't well-explained were Eva's sudden powers. I thought the book could have actually done without it, but even if the author wanted to add it to her story, I wanted to know how she got those powers and what happened to them at the end.

Made for You is one of my favorite YA mystery books. Marr did a splendid job at crafting this book. This is a book that people should read just so you can experience the chilling chapters written in the killer's voice. It will keep yo up until the late hours! Melissa Marr needs to write more YA mystery books!
