Have you ever gone just a little too far?

Lexie Banks has.

Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it’s more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he’s been her best friend and confidant for the better part of the last few years … and is so off limits. It’s a good thing she’s leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome.

But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can’t seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt … and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional and right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy-on-the-eyes deacon … only eight months away from becoming a priest. Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro’s signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn’t know what to think. She’s torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn’t want and the man she can’t have. And she isn’t sure how she can live with herself either way.

Personal Thoughts

Mind-blowing sex with a step-brother, lusting after a priest - it all sounds rather scandalous, right? So, yes, I'm not ashamed to admit that the promise of tons of drama was what got me interested in A Little Too Far.

Lexie, the main character, was one messy character, but not in a bad way. She was confused and I thought it was quite realistic for someone her age. In the spur of the moment, she wound up having sex with her step-brother and best friend, Trent. Initially, she was consumed with guilt and decided that she had to stay away from him. Good thing for her, she could escape Trent's company for a while because of her study abroad program in Rome. While in Rome, she met Alessandro, a man on his way to becoming a priest, with whom Lexie has to work on her project to wash away her sins. I can't say I connected with Lexie in any way, because she was such a complicated character and I am the complete opposite of complicated. She was definitely a fun character and to watch her get into all these scandalous situations was hilarious. However, Lexie wasn't just a walking scandal. She was passionate about art history and I could tell that she really loved the topic when she was visiting all sorts of places in Rome.

Now onto the boys. We readers are treated to not one, but two boys in A Little Too Far. I'll be honest, I went into the book with my heart set on falling for Trent only, because let's face it, who wants to have a crush on a character who's about to become a priest? It just seems wrong. But, I was completely taken aback at how much I adored Alessandro, the priest. We got to really know him and his personality in the book, more so than Trent who was, for the most part, absent. Alessandro was a a sweet heart and had had a really tough past and Catholicism was his way to get away from all his troubles. When he met Lexie, he struggled with vow of celibacy and began to question if he was ever meant to be a priest. I grew to really like him as a character which came as a surprise. I wish I had anything substantial to say about Trent, but honestly, I don't because we don't get to meet him and know him on a personal level as we did with Alessandro which was a shame.

My favorite part about A Little Too Far was not the romantic relationships, but the setting. I absolutely loved it. Lisa Desrochers knew what she was writing about and I could tell this while I was reading. She portrayed Rome beautifully. I felt like I was with Lexie when she went to visit all these art museums. It was vivid, realistic and stunning. As far as the romance went, I headed into the book expecting to be Team Trent, but I actually really liked Alessandro's relationship with Lexie. We got to see it grow from an attraction to a friendship and I loved their interactions together. As for Trent and Lexie, we are told that they have a powerful relationship, but since we hardly see them interact, it was hard for me to really see the love they had. Although they did have intense chemistry, I did wish we could have had some flashbacks here and there to see how they got close but we are only given a few snippets.

All in all, A Little Too Far was a unique and refreshing New Adult read with characters that lead normal lives (no unnecessary baggage or dark past or evil crazy parents), a focus on the setting and a dash of romance. Those of you who are looking for something new in the genre should most definitely give A Little Too Far a shot!
