Struggling to put her life back together after a tragic mountaineering accident kills her college sweetheart, twenty-one-year-old Holly Treadwell is trying to set aside her grief, forge ahead in school, and find herself again.

When Carter Hansen, a guy who brings back horrible memories from the night of the accident, finds his way back into her life, Holly’s unsure if she should let him in. He terrifies her in more ways than one and invokes feelings in her that she thought were buried forever. Regardless of her fears, she knows she must face him in order for her heart to heal.

Everyone tells Carter that what happened on the mountain that night was just a terrible accident, but even then, he can’t help but carry around the guilt and is unable to forgive himself. He’s drawn to Holly and being near her helps ease his conscience and gives him the release he needs.

As Holly and Carter’s relationship grows, they begin to realize that the more time they spend with one another, the more their wounds begin to heal—her grief and his guilt. But when Holly learns the details about the night of the accident—what everyone has been keeping from her—it will rip open old wounds and tear apart what they’ve both worked so hard to overcome…

Personal Thoughts

Right before I read Fall from Love, I read two new adult books that were utter disasters that I ended up DNFing. So, I was a little wary to start Fall from Love. However, Heather London has restored my faith in the New Adult sub-genre, by creating a short, sweet and drama-free romance book.

When 21 year old college student, Holly's boyfriend Adam dies on their anniversary, Holly is completely shattered and falls into a depression. When we meet Holly, she is full of grief and unable to cope with this grief. I felt for her, but I also wanted her to pick the pieces and move on from Adam and his death. Thankfully, the reader does not have to wait too long for that to happen. When she meets Carter, another broken soul who is as caring as a guy can get, they begin a friendship that is sweet, heartwarming and helps them both heal gradually. Over the course of the book, this friendship blossoms into something deeper. I really loved their friendship even more than I loved their romance. I'm a huge fan of romances that develop from a friendship, because in a way, it makes the whole relationship a lot more realistic, so I was ecstatic when I realized the author had taken that route.

We also get some very colorful secondary characters that add a lot more layers to this book. I especially enjoyed Jenna. She's that one friend who refuses to abandon you even when you act like a complete bitch with her. Supportive, caring and genuine are few words to describe what a wonderful friend Jenna was. Her relationship with Holly was clearly strong and unbreakable. This friendship is yet another reason I enjoyed this book so much. Both Carter and Jenna were responsible for Holly's growth throughout this book and I'm happy that the author did not make this yet another story where the main character comes out of her depression only because she has a bad boy to help her out. The dual POVs were also well-written. I loved being in both Holly and Carter's heads. I felt like I grew a connection with them, getting to know their fears, insecurities, happiness and feelings in general. For those people saying that New Adult is just an excuse to add explicit sex into YA books, check this book out. The couple has sex but it's more like fade into the background and proof that descriptive sex is not a necessity for New Adult books.

For those of you who like me are burned out on New Adult books, I definitely recommend this one. It's a short, but sweet story about a two people learning to overcome their fears and moving from a painful accident with the help of a beautiful friendship and a blossoming romance.
