Fleeing her recent past, Lilliah Woods finds refuge in the anonymity of the present day inner-city slums. As she settles into the seedy apartment she must now call home, she meets mysterious Marek Jamison when he materializes in her doorway demanding to know who she is. From that moment, he becomes a guardian and guide as she gradually discovers his hidden world.

As their relationship develops, Lilliah learns of Marek's dark past and of a brothers' quarrel he has been embroiled in for years. The quarrel turns into a larger battle of good and evil, liberty versus tyranny, and the separation of love and lust.

With Lilliah as the ultimate prize, the deadly conflict reaches out to threaten her family, and the outcome of the final battle will determine her fate. Lilliah must embark on an unexpected path that teaches her to trust in the man she has come to love, and give of herself as she never thought she could....

Author Interview

Hi, Jennifer! I'm excited to have you on the blog.
Thanks for having me, Nick. I'm very excited to be here and to have the opportunity to share some of my thoughts with you and your followers. I'm a little nervous, but, I have to admit, this is fun!

Describe your book in a tweet! (160 characters)
Small town girl, embracing change and learning to trust when she least expects it. Mysterious stranger, finding love and redemption when he never expected it.

The Scent of a Soul is your debut novel. What does if feel like to have your book out there now?
I never thought of myself as a writer, so the fact that I have written a book is a bit of a miracle to me. It began on a day when I wanted to know what it would feel like to write about the characters that had been occupying my imagination for fifteen years. To begin with, it was just a fun, first experimental page. I didn't expect it to go anyplace. But once I started writing, and the more I wrote, the more the characters filled in and came to life; some of them writing themselves differently than I had imagined. Now, four years later, I am humbled at the response my book is receiving. To see readers connect with my story and characters in the way that I had hoped is surreal. It's an amazing feeling!!

Which character from the book was the most fun to write about and why?
Patrick Brady. He is a best friend to Marek Jamison the hero of The Scent of a Soul. Patrick has a mischievousness about him that was fun to put on paper. I wish everyone could see what I see in my imagination when it comes to Patrick. He's like a grown up school boy looking for fun. Everyone asks if we'll be seeing more of Patrick. All I can say is, "You betcha!"

I saw from your biography that you enjoy cooking. What is your favorite dish?
Such an easy answer. I love my mother's Sonoran style enchiladas. She always fixed our wish dish for our birthday dinners, and I always picked these. They bring back such good memories! (Now, I get to make them for my family--added bonus.) :-)

Do you mind sharing what your favorite book of all time is?
Another easy answer: Gone With the Wind!  I love the characters of Gone With the Wind. It plays a part in The Scent of a Soul, and to find out more how I feel about it, you can read my story, as I gave Lilliah (my heroine) that personality trait. ;-)

Finally, what are your future plans in writing?
Such a loaded question! First, I plan on finishing my second book titled The Sound of a Silent Heart. It tells Candice's story (she is Lilliah's sister). Then, I have ideas for about thirteen more stories. I have to tell you, once you begin doing something creative---be it, painting, poetry, writing, etc.---there's no stopping. My creative floodgates have been opened, and I'm so excited about it!

Thanks for taking your time to answer these questions!
You are so welcome! Thanks for having me; it's been great.

Author Biography
I have been happily married to my husband for fifteen years. We met at Brigham Young University on a blind date, and, at first, I was sure he wasn't for me, but now I cannot imagine my life without him. My life is busy, but I try to keep it as simple as possible, focusing on what matters most to me---home and family. I love to read, cook, spend time with my family, and now I can add writing to that list---it is my creative outlet; we all need one.
