Samantha Rousseau is used to getting her hands dirty. Working toward a master’s degree in wildlife biology while helping take care of her sick father, she has no time for celebrity gossip, designer clothes, or lazy vacations. So when a duchess from the small country of Lilaria invites her to dinner, Samantha assumes it’s to discuss a donation for the program. The truth will change the course of her life in ways she never dreamed.

Alex D’Lynsal is trying to keep his name clean. As crown prince of Lilaria, he’s had his share of scandalous headlines, but the latest pictures have sent him packing to America and forced him to swear off women—especially women in the public eye. That is, until he meets Samantha Rousseau. She’s stubborn, feisty, and incredibly sexy. Not to mention heiress to an estate in his country, which makes her everyone’s front-page news.

While Sam tries to navigate the new world of politics and wealth, she will also have to dodge her growing feelings for Alex. Giving in to them means more than just falling in love; it would mean accepting the weight of an entire country on her shoulders.

Personal Thoughts

What a fun and entertaining book Suddenly Royal was! Despite it being unrealistic and at times, cheesy, this was a book that had me grinning like a fool from start to finish with its loveable characters and sweet romance.

Samantha, our main character, was a graduate student working towards her PhD when she found out that she was actually a princess of a fictional country, Lilaria. Sam, was a fun and likeable character. I loved how passionate she was about her studies on raptors and she just exuded happiness. I also loved how devoted she was to her step-father. It's rare to see a step-father/daughter relationship being portrayed in positive light, so I was very pleased to see that Nichole Chase had implemented it into her story. They shared a strong bond and the love that existed between them was realistic and heart-felt. Another thing I liked about Sam was how responsible she was. She was the kind of girl who knew the importance of responsibilities and didn't shy away from them. The love interest, Alex, or Prince Yummy as Sam and her best friend call him, was also a delightful character. He was flirtatious, charming and swoon-worthy. Not only that, but he was also a really nice and caring guy. What is there not to love about this gorgeous prince? I can promise you that you will fall for him as hard as I did. In addition to two fabulous main characters, Suddenly Royal also had a fantastic set of secondary characters. I particularly liked Sam's best friend who was just the kind of person I would want to be friends with because of her boisterous personality. All in all, Nichole Chase knows how to write some amazing characters who are easy to root for.

The romance in Suddenly Royal was enjoyable. There was no insta-love or unnecessary drama when it came to Alex and Sam's relationship which I appreciated very much. Alex and Sam had an instant attraction to each other, but Sam made sure that they knew each other well before they jumped into bed together. They had smoldering chemistry together and I loved the banter and friendship they shared. There were times when I would be frustrated with Sam for not wanting to be together with Alex because of her fear that she was not "good enough" for him, and during those times I really wanted to shake her some senses into her for refusing to be with this obviously smitten guy. However, part of me did understand her insecurities. The plot too was interesting with Sam learning the way of life in Lilaria and accepting the fact that she was a royal. I will admit however, that parts of the book were slow and could drag a bit. Overall though, Suddenly Royal was just a fun book and I'm definitely looking for more from this series.

Fans of The Princess Diaries and The Prince and Me will undoubtedly enjoy this book. If you're looking for a light, fun and romantic read, I wholeheartedly recommend Suddenly Royal!
