He is seeking absolution.

Flynn Caldwell has a hero complex and it’s one of the reasons he joined the New York City Fire Department. He has spent his entire professional career trying to atone for that one person he failed to save. Because, if he can do that, then perhaps he can be worthy of love again.

She is seeking escape.

Rowan Page’s life is nothing short of a disaster. Always immersed in trouble, she has only herself to depend on. She’s determined to pull herself out of this mess and make something of her life, despite the hard years she has lived on the streets of New York.

Together, they have the chance to become complete.

Flynn and Rowan’s worlds exist miles apart, but when a chance meeting brings them together, neither of them can deny the instant pull that connects them to each other. What starts as a tiny spark eventually flares into a fire so hot, it refuses to be extinguished.

For it to work, both of them will need to jump feet first into the flames to see where it takes them, despite the risk of being burned.

Personal Thoughts

I recently picked up a random book in the Off series and had a lot of fun reading it. When I saw the tour sign up for this one, I decided to give it a shot. While I did enjoy reading Off Chance, I did have mixed feelings about it, especially when it came to one of the main characters.

Off Chance is told in the POV of both Flynn and Rowan. Rowan was a character I had some issues with. I didn't like her very much because she could be pushy and she acted like a spoiled brat sometimes. I also never really understood why she behaved the way she did. Sure, she felt like she didn't have much attention from her parents, but that's not a reason to run away from home. Instead of talking to her parents about how she really felt, she did drastic things during her teenage years to get their attention. The grown-up Rowan wasn't any better either. Not only did she get involved with some mafia-esque guy, but she nearly got killed because of that. She constantly pushed Flynn and his kindness away and I found it incredibly annoying at times. There were times I doubted that she was a good match for Flynn, because he was  basically the opposite of her.

Now Flynn, on the other hand, was a different story. He was sweet, nice and genuinely cared for the people around him. He was very hard not to like and over the course of the book, I grew to really love him. We find out during the prologue that Flynn had gone through a traumatic event, the death of his girlfriend in a fire, but Flynn didn't let that event rule his entire life. Instead, he made it his mission to help people which is why he became a fireman. If Flynn had not been a character in this book, I don't think I would have enjoyed the book as much. Off Chance also had an adorable crazy dog called Capone, who might have stolen my heart as well.

While I wasn't a big fan of Rowan, I did love the romance between her and Flynn. The chemistry between the two of them was off the charts. I was frustrated by how much Rowan kept pushing him away and then acting upset when he finally decided to move on from her, but I did enjoy the friendship that the two of them shared. Their banter was fun and entertaining, at times making me laugh. We also get some pretty steamy scenes that had me blushing throughout the book. What I really loved about Off Chance though was the interactions between the secondary characters. We get to see glimpses of characters from the previous books and I love how they all had this very strong bond with each other.

In the end, I enjoyed reading Off Chance and I will most definitely be looking forward to reading more from Sawyer Bennett. Sexy, romantic and all kinds of adorable, Off Chance is a book that will appeal to many NA contemporary lovers.
