College freshman Quinn Montgomery will do anything to avoid the mistake her sister made—killing herself over a boy. But when she is forced into nude modeling at a local college to support her family after a bankruptcy, she begins to crack, just enough to let Torrin, the university’s top varsity oarsman, see that the real Quinn is not as feisty and unapproachable as she wants everyone to think. But letting someone in comes at a steep cost and, it turns out, Torrin is connected to Quinn’s family in more ways than she could ever imagine.

Personal Thoughts

Stripped is a book that took me completely by surprise because it ended up being a book that was in a sense powerful because of the nature of the main character who kept me baffled throughout most of the book.

Stripped tells the story of Quinn, a girl forced to nude model for art students at a neighboring university, so she can afford to go to college. Quinn started off as bold, strong young woman in the book. I had immense respect for her because she was a girl willing to sacrifice her dignity in order to live her dreams. I will admit that she was not at all likeable, but I'm betting that is exactly how the author wanted her to be portrayed. In addition to not having money for college, Quinn was also suffering from the pain and guilt over the suicide of her elder sister and role model. Because of what happened to Zoe, her sister, Quinn had a built a strong shell around her heart, preventing anyone from entering, because you see her sister killed herself because her boyfriend had broken up with her. So, when Torrin entered her life and constantly tried to get rid of her tough exterior, it frustrated Quinn. She didn't want to end up like her sister, but Torrin kept pushing through her barriers willing to get to know her despite how rude and bitter she was towards him. I wish I had more to say on Torrin, but I felt like the reader never got to peel off his layers of complexity, so I was rather indifferent to him.

The romance in this book was not up to par, according to me. It might be because I had just finished reading a book with a romance that basically ruined me for other romances, but I failed to see the chemistry between Quinn and Torrin. To be honest, I feel like this book would have worked a lot better had their relationship been that of a blossoming friendship, but the romance was definitely not terrible or anything. I also felt like most of the plot twists were highly predictable, but that definitely did not deter me from enjoying the story line.

Overall, Stripped was an enjoyable and powerful read about a character learning to let go of her past. It's poignant and raw, but unfortunately, it did not blow me away. However, I feel like fans of NA might enjoy this.
